Running out of options
I have been considering liposuction for some years following menopause. Once the “M” word became part of my life it pretty much tipped me and my body upside down.

My shape changed and it was as if my body took on a life of its own. From being a svelte size 10-12 for many years, in fact most of my life, my body turned into the shape of an pear – a very large pear and disproportionate to the rest of my body. My girth became a larger measurement than that of my bust. It was not fun and I felt wretched.

Despite joining a gym and attending at least three times weekly, watching what I ate to the point that I did not eat even a bean sprout more than my diet allowed, and hill walking almost every day, it was all to no avail. I felt defeated and so liposuction was a last resort for me.

It was lovely that my husband supported my decision. He had been by my side throughout all the previous efforts and frustrated days trying with everything I had to change things.

As I had been so very busy with my work, and recently contracting food poisoning which made me very ill, I made the decision to go ahead and began making contact with Gorgeous Getaways representatives. They were all so supportive and no matter how many questions or phone calls or emails I made, I never ever felt that I was a nuisance.

So once a price was agreed upon and I decided which accommodation I would stay in, a date for the surgery was set.

Queen for a day
Never did I feel nervous or alone. The flight over to Kuala Lumpur gave me the opportunity to relax and seeing Lim at the airport with my name emblazoned on a card, waiting for me, was just great. I felt like the queen!!

Lim waited whilst I changed some money and bought a local sim card then he drove me in the beautiful comfortable car with me lying down on the back seat, for the hours journey to Lanson Apartments.

20.6.09 – I love my little apartment. It is comfortable and has everything this gal needs. I awoke early as Lim was taking me to my consultation with Dr Tan. At the hospital, the beautiful Nor was waiting for me and she escorted me to the various pre surgery tests I required. It was very efficient.

I met other women who were also there with Gorgeous Getaways and who had had their surgery. They were quick to pass on that they were thrilled with their outcomes.

Gorgeous Getaways then invited me to a luncheon with a number of other clients. We talked and discussed and laughed together. Although I traveled on my own, there was never a time I felt alone.

21.6.09 Temperatures here are around a steady 30 degrees Celsius. Although warm, it is not so hot that it is unbearable. In fact, I loved it. I swam in the pool, went out for walks and took myself in to see some shops. I could do whatever I chose. I silently thank my husband for supporting me in this venture. Early to bed tonight, surgery tomorrow. Yay!!

The ‘fat spread’
22.1.09 – LET THE TRANSFORMATION BEGIN. I was collected early by car and driven to Sunmed Hospital. Dr Tan marked out my body with a felt marker. I continued to feel calm and stress free. No nerves, no worries.

0800hrs – theatre and ‘time travel’. When I awoke, I was back in my private room. I had a garment on that they must have poured me into in theatre. I felt suspended in a galaxy of nothingness for the next few hours and it was then I noticed the clock on the wall – it already was 4.30pm.

Whoa – how long was I in surgery?

I later learn the clock is hours ahead and I feel a bit like I am playing some surreal role in Alice in Wonderland.

Pain relief was offered on a regular basis for the rest of that day and during the night. The nursing staff were polite, knocking on the door prior to entering my room and always introducing themselves to this pile in the bed who would never ever remember their names, let alone their faces. I didn’t have the ooomph to tell them they were, in fact, talking to a zombie! But being in Neverland was comfortable.

I continued to drift in and out of sleep, a very pleasant, fuzzy space and discover I have an IV line in to my wrist and a catheter in to my bladder. Yay, that means I don’t have to roll off the bed to use the toilet. A nurse enters my room and picks up a long cylinder, one of four I believe, and asks me if I want to take it home. “What is it?” I ask. She replied that it was my fat!!! I am not sure what she thought I might like to do with it but humurous pictures began to pass through my imagination. Mmmm… perhaps I could use it to spread on my toast for breakfast!!

My guardian angels
23.6.09 – Discharge day today. My little hospital holding place had served its purpose and my apartment bed was calling me home. Everything had gone without a hiccup except for one thing. An administrative staff member had visited me in my hospital room and asked me to sign my discharge papers, which I duly did. I am good at doing as I am told. The time was 10.30 am and I did not realise that that meant I had just discharged myself out right now at this time. Therefore when I asked for more pain relief it was denied as I was officially discharged.

I felt panic begin in the pit of my stomach and rise like bile into my throat. I think the name for that process is ‘panic’. I immediately rang Jasmine on my mobile and explained the situation to her. Like magic, she managed to talk to the nursing staff and organise pain relief for me. She became my guardian angel. I was so pleased I had taken my cell phone and that Jasmine’s number was on it.

Thank goodness for the Gorgeous Getaways staff, they are gutsy, caring, gentle and efficient women. : ) “Little Richard” the ‘crooner’ was my driver who took me back to my
wonderful little apartment.

Michelin Margo and her knickers
24.6.09 Today, I am driven back to Sunmed for my first postop check up. Dr Tan is happy with my progress, the dressings are changed and now Nor and I have to pour my body back in to the special stretchy compression undergarment. I feel a bit like the Michelin Man.

26.6.09 Today I feel ready to go venture out and so I walk around the corner and across the walkway to the little shopping centre. I buy some bits and pieces and enjoy the little look around. As I am gaily walking back to the apartments, minding my own business and looking forward to being able to flop down on my bed when I get back, something very strange starts happening. I can feel something brushing against my lower legs. When I look down, I am alarmed to discover my knickers have dislodged themselves and with each step, they have arrived down around my ankles. I was unable to feel this happening due to my compression garment which finishes at the knees but then my travel sox begin at the knee. I wore them in order to hold back the swelling in my ankles. So here I am, this hapless foreigner standing in the busy street with her knickers down around her ankles. I have two choices here, I thought to myself. I either calmly step out of them or pull them back up. I opted to pull them up. Once I was safely inside my apartment, I convulsed with laughter at the situation. What a sight it must have been.

28.6.09 I am again invited to attend a Gorgeous Getaways hosted luncheon. Such fun and great to meet other like-minded people. I think in fact, that I would like to repeat the whole thing all over again. I had such a great time.

30.6.09 I discover at breakfast that Michael Jackson has died. A sad story for a sad man.

The breakfasts at Lanson are beautiful with wonderful choices.

1.7.09 Second follow up visit to Dr Tan. Sutures were painlessly removed and my progress checked. Given the ‘all clear’ was great. However, I am reminded it will take at least 2 -3 months for the body to settle down in to its new shape. I am not perturbed by this. After all, my body has been out of shape for so many years, what is another 3 months going to be? I am instructed to begin massaging the areas gently on a daily basis. Dr Tan kindly wrote a letter for me to present to the airline requesting I have preference for a seat that has extra room. I did, and I was.

Sleeping in those first days was sometimes a little uncomfortable due to the ‘heavy artillery’ of the compression garment. But I became accustomed to it and actually felt strange when I was not wearing it.

Refitting clothes for my gorgeous body
During my period of recovery, I attended other activities that were kindly arranged by Gorgeous Getaways. We went to the Selangor factory, the fish spa where we had our feet nibbled and ‘gnashed’ by fish and another local meal. I didn’t want to go home. I was having a great time.

I am now 10 weeks post surgery. I continue to wear compression garments although not the strength of the original one. The bruising has long gone and my shape is changing. I now have a waist. What a treat!

I will recommence attending the gym in another few weeks. I am now looking forward to my holiday so I can wear my new smaller clothes. The ones I bought whilst on my Gorgeous Getaways in KL. They are gorgeous and I know I am going to feel really good in them.

All that remains to show I have had surgery are the little, tiny puncture scars. These will fade with time and are not in any way intrusive.

I suggest for others looking at surgery, that they begin taking Arnica for 2 weeks prior to surgery and continue for 2 weeks post surgery. This will ensure the bruising dissipates reasonably quickly. Mine had all but disappeared after only 4 days.

As good as it gets
Gorgeous Getaways as a service is amazing. Their strategies for ensuring their clients are comfortable, stress free, not alone etc are a credit to the business of their overseas surgery business. The staff are friendly, supportive and have great senses of humour. Nothing is too much trouble so thank you to all those who were there to support me through this surgery process.

I highly recommend Gorgeous Getaways to anyone who has been thinking about taking the step toward holiday surgery, you will not be disappointed.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]

Choosing Malaysia over China
For the last 10 years, I’ve carried an apron and an extra 40kg of weight. I decided to give my gym program a helping hand and get myself a nip and tuck. My friends had spoken about doing something about their problems and I thought why not just do it.

Currently, I reside in China and friends are going to local doctors for their procedures but I’m not that daring. I felt that Malaysia/Thailand had a history of doing plastic surgery so I looked on the internet. I remembered Gorgeous Getaways from a news item done in NZ (the two women were full of praise and confidence) and that was how I made my decision to use Gorgeous Getaways.

When I made the initial inquiry I was breathless, even more so when I got of the plane in KL. My husband came with me and we had spoken to girlfriends in China but no one from NZ.

Everything happened quickly
The Gorgeous Getaways staff, Dr Nasir and hospital staff were wonderful. The hospital service was great. I must admit that I was nervous for weeks before the surgery and only now months after the surgery, am I able to relax about my decision.

The surgery came around so fast, the staff took me into my room, took pre op tests etc and then I woke up looking at an improved but bruised me. The hospital staff were wonderful they cared for me really well.

I felt guilty because I had chosen this procedure and they were so caring. However, I came away with a pressure sore that is still healing now months later but I feel some of that responsibility rests on my shoulders. I chose not to take the pain medication offered therefore I was in pain when I moved and opted to lay in bed (too much) when I should have moved about more. 4 days after surgery I was discharged and removed to recover in the Lanson Apartments.

Sad to leave newfound bonds
I was in Malaysia for a total of 20 days. I was healing very well with little concern. However, the pressure sore and blood loss were concerns. I was very lethargic after operation and movement was very limited.

When it came time to return to China, I was very nervous to leave behind the relationship I had formed with the Gorgeous Getaways nurse and Dr Nasir. But it was just the boost that my spirits needed to return to my own space and my family. Things worked out from there.

When I first woke from the surgery, it was the first time in 10+ years that I could see all of me. It was just overwhelming! People have asked what diet was I on, etc. and I tell them the truth. I had plastic surgery, Wow! were they surprised.

New outlook on life
I feel great. I am still the same person but I’m not. Having done the surgery I have more belief in myself not because I look different but because I coped and overcome my personal barriers. I am looking for new challenges and have written down a list of things I want to acomplish in the next year and beyond.

My stay in Malaysia was wonderful. I was cared for by the hospital staff and the Gorgeous Getaways nurse. The Gorgeous Getaways consultants were helpful and supportive also. I am so pleased that I chose Gorgeous Getaways as the ladies went out of their way to help me and my family and I am sooo grateful.

If I could offer some advice, be clear in your mind what you want and be patient with yourself. Drink lots of water, it is important.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]

Looking for my silver lining
When I celebrated my 18th birthday with my family, I was totally unaware that a few days later, I was going to be diagnosed with a massive thyroid cancer which had spread to my parathyroids, jugular vein, face and lymph gland. The surgery in Auckland City Hospital was major and the complications that followed were none too pleasant either!

They say that every cloud has a silver lining and all I could think was – at least having cancer I would surely lose weight and look like all my friends. Sadly this was not the case as the doctors thought it was having an endocrine cancer that caused my massive weight gain in the first place.

I continued to battle with my morbid obesity problem – constantly aware that people would stare at me in the street and often mutter comments along the lines that I must be a fastfood junkie – and others that are not printable! Eventually, having completed as much radiotherapy as I was allowed, I had a lapband operation which helped me lose 63kg!

The weight loss sounds terrific but I was left with so much loose skin around my body, I felt as though I looked worse than before. I knew I had to do something, and quickly. I visited a cosmetic surgeon in NZ, but he seemed to think I was in the “too hard” box. The amount of operations he recommended I would need and the costs involved were totally beyond my means!

It seemed I was destined to live with a body I loathed. I felt things were too good to be true when Gorgeous Getaways offered to come to my rescue. I sent photographs and a detailed description of my medical history and an outline of what I realistically hoped to achieve and they were so positive; I actually wondered if it was a trick! At last, it seemed there was light at the end of a very dark tunnel. I just kept hoping that if they could do even half of what I wanted, I would be ecstatic.

Surgery and an engagement
Gorgeous Getaways booked me into the Ampang Puteri Hospital with the famous and well respected plastic surgeon, Dr Jalil. I arrived in Malaysia and from the second I stepped through the airport door, the Gorgeous Getaways team were by my side. I was chauffeured to the hospital and put instantly at ease. I met Dr Jalil and it was such a relief to find a surgeon who actually believed he would make a difference for me. He was going to operate the next day; I could barely contain my excitement.

The operation went even better than expected. Even through the hospital pressure bandages, I could see the difference. My GG case manager was by my side when I was awake enough to talk. The hospital nurses and staff were so kind and helpful; you couldn’t help but feel the future was going to be great.

My girlfriend Ivy came over to Malaysia so she could be by my side every step of the way. She was amazed at how quickly I was up and about and feeling on top of the world.

We went to Mid Valley Mall and bought an engagement ring. I proposed at the top of the KL Tower and to my great delight (and relief) she said yes! Ivy said she loved me no matter how I looked, but she loves the new me – a shadow of my former self and in my eyes, the happiest person ever to have a Gorgeous Getaways holiday ever!

One more procedure before getting hitched
Dr Jalil has said that I would really benefit from having my chest operated on – he couldn’t do this when I had the last surgery as it would not have been safe to do at the same time.

I am hoping that I will be able to raise the funds to have this done so that I can look my best on wedding day on January 24th 2009. Even if I have to wait to have this surgery after I am married, I will definitely have it done and I will certainly be using Gorgeous Getaways and Dr Jalil. The next thing on my list will be to return to have dental work done.

I would not hesitate to recommend Gorgeous Getaways to anyone who is feeling in need of any form of cosmetic surgery. I think I am a perfect example of turning adversity into success – and yes, every cloud does have a silver lining after all!![/fusion_text][fusion_text]

Turning the tables

Growing up, I participated in lots of sports and dancing and even did modelling for a while, so I was pretty fit and had a positive self image.

After a break up with my boyfriend who dumped me “because I was too fat” (I weighed 70kg and am 168cm tall) in 1999, I started piling on weight. In 2001, I decided I needed a new start on life – so I lost around 17kg and joined the Navy. In 2004/2005 the weight all came back due to a lack of exercise and lack of self confidence and motivation left over from my ex boyfriend. I have remained single for over 7 years now.

In early 2005, I had a life changing experience when I spent nearly 4 months in and around Indonesia after the tsunami. I saw and experienced things I could never have imagined. When I returned from this deployment I knew I had to make big changes in my life, but it took me a while to get my head around it all.

I didn’t like who I was, what I was becoming and knew I would remain single and unhealthy if I didn’t start looking after my body. I started walking regularly, resumed my old passion for tap dancing, took up belly dancing and even pole dancing! I joined Weight Watchers and a local gym to get myself in optimum shape for surgery.

I know that having a bit of a nip and tuck won’t suddenly transform me into a hot babe, but I think that coupled with my sense of achievement from my weight loss and a more positive self image, I will be more comfortable in being able to “put myself out there”.

The surgery will finish off all my hard work and will give me time away from the stresses of my job to reflect on what I have accomplished for myself and what I hope to strive for in the future.

I’m so proud of what I have achieved in my life – personally and in my career. I’d like to be able to show other young women that you can turn around hardships and adversity and make them into positives, and that you can have the body you want with lots of hard work first then a holiday on the side with GG to tidy up!

A life changing experience

Everybody has commented on how I look after surgery. I had such a great experience and every day I can look in the mirror and see positive changes to my body and I know that my self esteem is growing as my body is shrinking!

My mum is very impressed with the whole set up and keeps marvelling at how fast my body is healing and changing. I know she was a bit aprehensive at first, but I think because she saw it all for herself, that she will be a positive ambassador of surgery holidays like me!

The chance to show people what they can achieve and prove to them that it can be done inexpensively and safely would mean a lot to me. I’m not emabarrased that I was overweight, or that I have had cosmetic surgery.

I am proud that I have achieved a significant weight loss and that I have done this for myself to make ME happy. Maybe that sounds selfish, but if I don’t take care of number one – who will?!

Everything I have been through since gaining the weight then subsequently losing it is a part of me, it has helped make me into the person I am today and it should be celebrated. Now I’ve got it, I’m going to flaunt it![/fusion_text][fusion_text]

Half-price surgery, full price results
I had considered plastic surgery for quite a few years as after having 5 children. My tummy was wrinkled around the belly button and my breasts were saggy. I felt the lines on my face made me look older than I really was.

I guess I was bothered most about my face as you can cover up your body with clothes. I had previously had a mini facelift that went wrong, the Dr in Australia accidentally cut my nerve and although it has almost repaired, the final results of my surgery were not very good.

I chose to have plastic surgery as I know no amount of moisturizer was going to turn the years back on my face plump up my breasts or get rid of the wrinkles around my belly button.

My face bothered me the most I hated looking at my wrinkles in the mirror every morning.

I checked out the prices to have the surgeries done in Kuala Lumpur and was really supervised how much cheaper it was and as we wanted an overseas holiday decided to go ahead and get it all done. I got my surgeries and a holiday for half the price.

I chose Gorgeous Getaways as I had done a lot of research and felt that they were a very credible company and they had really great reviews from previous clients.

I was not nervous at all just really excited about the surgeries. I told all my friends and some of my work colleagues.

When I first met Dr Wong, I was a little uncomfortable as his manner was very abrupt with me and also with his staff. But I soon realized that he was very competent and that put me at ease.

The hospital I used was an older one which they were in the process of doing up, but the staff were lovely and looked after me really well.

The Gorgeous Getaways support staff were fabulous and very caring.

I wasn’t really nervous about my procedures, just more excited. I was a little nervous for my facelift as my previous mini face lift had gone wrong. I put my faith in Dr Wong as I knew he was a very skilled surgeon. It was good to have all my operations over and done with and after everything went successfully I was able to relax.

I spent two days in hospital.

With having three procedures, it took longer for me to recover than if I had only had one. The tummy tuck tuck took me longest to recover from. I spent about 5 days just relaxing in bed and reading books letting my body really recover. I got up for short walks around my hotel room.

I would recommend that people listen to there bodies and don’t push themselves to do too much to soon, but give there bodies time to heal. I got several massages from the Gorgeous Getaways girls which were divine. My husband and children came over with me and we got together for a lunch with some other Gorgeous Getaways clients which was really nice and great to talk to other ladies who had surgeries.

I was really excited to go home and show my new face and body off. I felt really confident and was so happy with the results.

I feel really great about my new look and so many people have commented and told me how good I look.

I feel my life has improved because I feel sexier and younger and my clothes look better on me now with a bigger bust. I am very slim so my new breasts give me more shape.

I have always believed anything is possible but having a tighter firmer look in my face and body just makes me feel younger and happy with myself. I am happy to walk around in a bikini now.

My recommendations
My advice to someone considering having any of these procedures is go for it. You won’t regret it.

I went and spoke to a couple of surgeons over here to get opinions then chose to have it done in Malaysia because they are just as qualified as our Dr’s and only charge half the price.

Choosing Gorgeous Getaways means you also get great service and support . They organise all your appointments with the surgeon for you and take you to and from these appointments and to your surgery. They are really caring which is nice when you are in a foreign country.

I would 100% recommend Gorgeous Getaways to anyone.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]

Tackling what the gym couldn’t fix
For me I had considered having plastic surgery after I had lost 30 kilos and was left with a roll, or pouch of fat, that three years at the gym and no amount of exercising would shift. I sought advice from my GP and it was then that we discussed the possibility of having a tummy tuck.

The biggest thing that bothered me about my appearance was the fact that I could never wear clothes other than waisted and belted skirts with long tops that would hide what I felt was an embarrassment. As I had also become involved in sport-based activities, it used to annoy the daylights out of me when I had to wear shorts as long t-shirts became a major wardrobe accessory. I also used to hate running because you could hear the sound of that extra skin moving and flapping against your body. For me that was gross.

As for having my breasts done, that was a decision based on the same issues and after my consultation I was left in no doubt that it was definitely a ‘need to do’ move. My facelift was a later decision after the first surgery, and again after consultation. Losing the weight had left me with saggy eyelids and the beginnings of jowls that I wasn’t enjoying looking at as well as that turkey neck look.

Everything rolling into place
The events surrounding my decision to go ahead were based on the very dramatic difference between the cost in New Zealand compared to the prices offered by Gorgeous Getaways as well as the fact there was a holiday component built into the service. One other benefit was that there was never any difficulty with communication or about who I was taking, or even if I’d wanted to take more than one person with me.

I had made an appointment with a specialist here in New Zealand and had an initial appointment with his nurse which was informative but left me reeling that the tummy tuck alone would cost $20,000 or more. It was after talking to friends and my sisiter-in-law who is a nurse (she came with me as my support person) that we got to talking about having the surgery overseas.

I searched the internet and came across Gorgeous Getaways whose package deals included a vacation as well. Not only that but they were informative and held detailed information about the company, the surgeries, their doctors and locations for surgey. I did further research, emailed and phoned them and nothing was ever an issue.

In most cases, it takes a wee while to organise but my whole package was
organised and I was on the plane off to a new life within a fortnight!

No more hiding
I never felt nervous about the trip, its surgery or what lay waiting after the operation. In fact, I told my sister-in-law that I was going with or without her and she needed to make a decision quick!!

I was excited about what I was intending to do but still only told a few people at work and of course my family what was about to happen.

Actually the most interesting thing was that when I told my parents and one or two friends, they all said to me that I looked great and couldn’t understand why I would want to go. Isn’t it amazing what clothes hide – but it doesn’t hide how you feel or what you know your body looks like.

When I showed them why they were absolutely shocked and said they never
realised. The difference now is they can all see it and I am thrilled with the fact that I no longer have to hide my body shape any more!!

Fantastic hospital, great staff
Doctor Nasir was wonderful. I felt completely at ease from the moment I met him. He explained everything thoroughly which put me at ease straight away.

The hospital was amazing! Prince Court Medical Centre is brand new and at the time I was there, I believe there were only about 8 patients in the entire hospital.

The nurses were friendly and helpful but one needed to remember that there were some language barriers to deal with.

The Gorgeous Getaways support staff continually popped in and out and even after I left the hospital they still arranged different things such as getting

together with other patients, organising other requirements and excursions as well.

I never felt hesitant about my surgery and I would have to say that I felt relaxed before and after, although the discomfort is all part of the process.

I was discharged two days after my facelift, so in total my stay was 6 days, if I remember rightly.

Slow and easy
As far as the recovery process went, I was up and about pretty much within 24 hours. Even after the facelift. The one thing I had to learn was to slow down and take some easy time and allow my body to recover, not easy if yoiu are a busy person.

One of the biggest steps to recovery was eating properly (this wasn’t a problem in the hospital as the food was like something from a 5 star hotel!) However you needed to make sure that you continued to eat well after you left. The other step to recovery was rest, but gradually getting about without taking on too much too soon.

The vacation at the resort was a welcome respite as there was definitely no way I could have flown the distance home to New Zealand so soon afterwards. Something worth treating yourself to after what the body has gone through as well.

Va va voom!
The only unusual thing that happened after the surgery was we went out to do some shopping at one of the malls and while standing there looking confused and rather lost, got chatted up by some guys younger than us!!!

I was really excited to see the reaction from friends and family. Most people couldnt believe the difference and my two daughters and my some were shocked at the size I now am. Their reaction was wortheverything!!

I love my new look and the fact that people are commenting too. It’s great to go shopping as well!!

My life is gradually taking on a new identity and I definitely have dreams and goals that were there but that are now attainable.

I have gained more confidence and have started dating, one or two which have been younger than me, which is another new and incredible experience.

I have lots of people ask me about my experience and have found that they are generally interested to come across someone that has actually one it.

I certainly never regret my decision. It is one of the best ones I have made in my life!

My personal tips
Some useful tips to remember is to take loose fitting clothing as your body tends to swell after surgery. Shorts are kind of out as the compression garments you may need to wear come to just above the knee like bike pants.

If you’re buying your garments up there, one won’t be enough as you need a smaller one to wear later when you get home. Another tip would be to take arnica before and after your surgery. I can’t say it works for everyone, but for me I had very little bruising.

My advice is to check out what you really want to have done, do the research, talk to the consultants and to people that have been to Gorgeous Getaways and had the same proceedures.

Gorgeous Getaways offer a professional service from start to finish and I have no hesitation in recommending their service to anyone considering going.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]

Cost-effective options
I had some dental work done in Thailand two years ago and when I was doing my research on where to go, I discovered the Gorgeous Getaways site.

I had a few areas of concern – namely my sagging and bagging face – so I was intrigued and began looking into it further. I really like what I found and decided that I would come to Malaysia for a full facelift when I could save the money. The cost of the procedures were a fraction of what I would have to pay here at home, even including the travel and accommodation expenses! Plus, I would be able to have a nice holiday along with everything else!

As I made plans, I decided that I would have a few other procedures done to address some areas of my body that were problematic for me. I did not have the procedures because of my weight, which is within a fairly normal range, but because of my shape and some bulges that were in rather awkward and bothersome places!

One of the most bothersome areas was the underarm boobage that prevented me from ever being able to wear a top that hadn’t been altered in some way! I always had to buy XL sizes to fit across my chest and under my armpits, and then take them in around my waist and shoulders so I didn’t look like I was wearing a muumuu! I had also had some liposuction on my stomach several years before that had left bumps and lumps and sagging skin that I wanted to have lifted and smoothed out. I also decided that 54 years of my thighs rubbing together should come to an end!

Basically, I just wanted to have a body that could fit into, and wear, normal-sized clothing that didn’t have to be altered in some way! I can tell you that the amount of money I have spent altering my clothes over the years has probably been almost as much as my surgery cost!

I am a very active person, doing cardio and weight training exercise at least three or more time per week. I also teach Kindergarten, which is a highly active job! I have never smoked or drank alcohol, so I was not concerned about my overall health. I always felt young and fit, but my body was beginning to show otherwise. I got tired of people asking me if I was tired or not feeling well because of the bags and sags on my face – especially around my eyes.

My initial decision to come to KL was only to have a facelift. I had checked in to it here at home and the cost was just too prohibitive for me. After I discovered Gorgeous Getaways, I was excited to see that they also offered package deals that included multiple procedures. This is when I decided to expand my surgery options.

I am also a very open person who does not think there is anything wrong with a person having surgery to improve their looks! I told all of my family and close friends what I was planning and they were all very supportive, even though a few said that I didn’t really need it! I had gone to Thailand on my own, so I was not too nervous about going to Malaysia on my own.

Brilliant experience
It was a very long flight from Canada to KL and I was quite tired when I arrived. I was picked up promptly from the airport and brought to the Maytower where I stayed during my trip. I was impressed with how friendly and professional the staff were who met me and helped me settle in. My client manager, Rowena, was awesome, and the other staff were all just so helpful and patient with me during my entire stay! The room was not fancy, but it was clean and well furnished and met all my needs. I wasn’t planning on spending too much time in it anyway!

When I was taken to the Prince Court Medical Center to meet the doctor and get checked in, I was very impressed with the hospital and the staff. It was truly a lovely place! All the staff, from the person who checked me in, to the doctor, to the nurses who cared for me, were all wonderful, professional, and caring people! I have never had such good care in a hospital setting before!

Because I was having multiple procedures, I ended up having two surgeries about a week apart. I was in the hospital a total of eleven days, during which time I had the best care ever! My incisions healed nicely and I was able to get up and around almost immediately after each surgery.

My only problem was a reaction to the morphine after my first surgery. I was very ill for about a day and a half until it all got out of my system. I also had some allergic reactions to the tape that was used on my incisions. They changed the medication for my second surgery so that I was not sick at all, but I still had a reaction to the tape. I was not in any pain – just some natural soreness when moving around – but not enough to have to take pain medication. I did not take any pain medication after the first day as I did not feel that I needed it.

I feel that my recovery went very well. I was able to be up and about almost immediately after my surgeries. I was a little too rambunctious after my second surgery and pulled a few stitches out of my thigh lift that had to be re-stitched – not a pleasant experience!

The nursing staff checked on me regularly and were kind and gentle when cleaning and dressing my incisions. They even helped me braid my hair so that it wouldn’t fall in my face after my face lift! I really appreciated the wonderful care I received from them during my eleven days in hospital!

I must say, though, that I was very happy when I was finally discharged! I was really looking forward to going sightseeing and shopping! I was also looking forward to meeting with the other clients and sharing experiences and developing friendships. I really enjoyed going on the outings planned by the Gorgeous Getaways staff and attending the weekly luncheons for the clients. It was really nice to meet friends I could hang out with and do things with!

Loving me so much more
I am so very happy with my results! I love the new look of my face, even though there are still some changes taking place, and I am happy with the results from my other surgeries, too. I took a picture of the progress of my facelift each day during my stay and sent it to my friends and family. I didn’t want them to be too shocked at the change! They were all very excited for me and some are even considering having a few nips and tucks themselves!

I think I am the most excited about the “breast reduction” I had under my armpits! I can wear a size M top now that does not have to be altered in any way and my arms actually can lay flat at my sides! Before, because of the underarm boobage, I always looked like I was getting ready to take off in flight! This was one of the very first things my friends and family noticed about me (after my face)!

I am thrilled with my new look! I don’t think my overall life has changed too much, since I had a pretty good one to begin with, but I now look as fresh and energetic as I feel! I have had many people comment on how “rested” and refreshed I look, so I know that my facelift achieved what I wanted it to!

I would definitely recommend Gorgeous Getaways to anyone interested in cosmetic surgery. In fact, all of my friends and family have already been regaled with stories and pictures of my great experience!

My advice to someone considering cosmetic surgery would be to really do the research on the procedure(s) you want and understand the pros and cons involved in those procedures. I chose Gorgeous Getaways because of the variety of package deals they offered for multiple procedures, but also for the amazing and comprehensive pre and post-operative care they offered. I was really taken care of, both before and after my surgery!

The staff of Gorgeous Getaways made sure that every need was met, whether it was extra towels, or internet service, or an appointment made, or trip planned. They bent over backwards to make sure I was happy and satisfied with everything. I am sure I was rather annoying at times, but they always took care of me with a smile and a caring attitude. That alone would make me recommend Gorgeous Getaways to anyone above any other company.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]

Makeover or convertible?
I have always been a big girl and have hated my overhanging tummy area, even as a teenager. As I got older I started to consider surgery but could never have afforded or justified the expense here in Australia with a mortgage and kids to support etc.

Then once I turned 50, I started to have my midlife crisis attacks and bought a convertible, a wombat ended that little dream car and the insurance money was just sitting there waiting to be spent on ?? Another convertible? Well, I had all the photos to prove that I once did own a convertible so then I decided to investigate overseas surgery as I had heard of it over the last 10 years as an affordable option to surgery in Australia.

I stumbled on the Gorgeous Getaways website after a bad news story on TV and being already curious about overseas surgery and knowing the risks are the same if the surgery is done in Australia I went onto GG website – as a nurse I was immediately impressed with the amount of information provided i.e. pre-operative info regarding vitamins and arnica to reduce bruising, diet and hydration etc., how to choose the surgeon and the before and after photos.

I decided to bite the bullet before all the excess cash disappeared, bought a $500 car which still gets me from A-B like the convertible but now I could do more to improve me – I am now going through my selfish phase of life. IT IS NOW ALL ABOUT ME!!!

It all happened so fast (perhaps too fast) as I was trying to fit my surgery in between daughters having their babies and my work commitments………but I was determined to do it this year.

I wasn’t nervous until the day of the operation when I thought for a moment if I am being ridiculous.

I didn’t tell anyone the real reason why I was going to Malaysia (even my best friend) as I didn’t want to hear that I was being reckless with my health by going overseas.

I did everything GG advised re the pre-op preparation and it definitely has paid off. SO MAKE SURE YOU READ AND FOLLOW THEIR ADVICE TO THE LETTER AS IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR A GOOD POST-OP OUTCOME.

The right choice
My first impression was WOW ……how supportive and caring the GG staff are. I chose the cheapest surgeon (everyone who knows me knows that is me, miss frugal!!!) but I got an absolute GEM in Dr Nasir………goes to great lengths to explain the procedures, even tried to talk me out of a brow lift as said I didn’t need it – that convinced me I had the right surgeon for the job. I changed my procedures 3 times as had a last minute nervousness about how I would look if I had a breast lift (rightly or wrongly)……so had a thigh lift instead (no regrets as has made the tummy tuck more successful looking)

I won’t a lie – the facelift was horrible from a comfort point of view. I woke up in recovery with terrible discomfort and requested to have a PCA (patient controlled analgesia machine) – being a nurse in the know and having it the previous week for my tummy tuck.

I was told I would get oral analgesia back on the ward, but I knew my discomfort would not be alleviated with oral medication and I needed it right then so through my slit eyes and bandaged head, I strongly yet respectfully requested the PCA. The theatre staff were wonderful and rang the anesthetist who agreed I could have this type of pain relief. All staff from theatre to ward staff to surgeon/anesthetist were so respectful and caring of my needs and they deserve our respect as well with gentle requests and no diva performances.

The real journey
To help recovery, it was the bond developed with the 5 other women going through the same ordeal. A NZ young woman rang me after my facelift to invite me to coffee in her hotel room with the 4 other women. I was in discomfort from the facelift with the swelling and heat but this socializing helped 100 % with my being able to deal with it.

Every day saw improvements and now 2 months down the track, I think I should have just sucked it up and handled it better but it is the unknown that scares most. How long will I look and feel so different. Your face changes shape for at least 6 weeks then your normal features start to reappear. I looked like I had Tony Abbott ears for 6 weeks, but now I am thrilled with the results.

I was very nervous about going home as I looked so different and I didn’t want anyone to know what I had done. I was able to lie low for 2 weeks which was great as even though people noticed I looked different they couldn’t put their finger on why.

‘Old fat lady’ no more
I am absolutely over the moon with how I look. I can go and buy clothes in the normal shops not the fat lady ones.

It took me a few weeks to get the courage to tuck my shirts into my new skinny jeans as I always wore the swing shirts before to cover the overhanging tummy but now I feel super sexy and people say I look 40ish not 50ish anymore.

Since my facelift I have lost the tired droopy dog look and people are commenting on how fresh I look…………NO REGRETS WHATSOEVER

I can’t say thank you enough to the wonderful team at GG…….so much daily support and the hospital staff – impeccable from an infection control (nurse hat again) aspect. I cannot fault the medical/nursing care. I would even say it is better than Australian standards and would not hesitate going back to Dr Nasir and the Prince Court Medical Centre which is only a few years old and has everything that opens and shuts from a medical/nursing perspective…….very up to date and modern/scrupulously clean etc

My tips are:
1. Be realistic with expected outcomes. I have a perfectly flat tummy now but have scars that circumnavigate my torso………it is a trade off but I feel wonderful in clothing.

2. Be respectful of all the people from GG to hospital staff to drivers etc you come in contact with, they are very caring and eager to meet our needs.

3. FOLLOW PREOPERATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS CLOSELY FOR THE BEST POST OP OUTCOME.

4. Don’t shop too much in the heat.

5.Iinstead of ice packs buy face washers and put them in the freezer to relieve the swelling and heat after a facelift – change these very very often to make you feel better and reduce the discomfort – keep it up for days, especially over the eyelids and around the front and back of ears. The face washers mould better than ice packs around these areas.

6. Drink lots of fluids especially immediately post operatively.

P/S The food at Prince Court Medical Centre is to die for……..gourmet +++++

The main benefits of GG is everything is organized for you and the staff are superb and cant do enough to make you more comfortable.

Paying for his comment
It all started in February 2006. We were on a cruise and getting ready for dinner. My husband said in passing that it was a shame my boobs had gone droopy. That was it – he had to pay for that comment. Boobs led to face lift as well and getting my arms done. When I arrived I threw in an extended tummy tuck as well.

I decided to go abroad, as multiple procedures could be done at the same time and also the cost was a factor.

No amount of diet and excercise would take my boobs back the way they should be, and that charming comment from my husband would not leave my mind.

I checked out surgeries at home and abroad. The price at home was out of the question and also they would only do one operation at a time. Also at that time, I didn’t want anyone else to know what I was doing.

I picked Gorgeous Getaways because the communication was efficient, and everything was explained and detailed on the website. I was a bit nervous but some of that nervousness was probably travelling so far on my own.

Recovery with lots of shopping
Everything went very smoothly. The hospital and surgeon were great, as were the Gorgeous Getaways staff. I wasn’t too worried the morning I went for surgery, as my surgeon was very nice and gave me confidence. I had my surgery on Wednesday and left the hospital for the hotel on Saturday morning.
My recovery was really quick. I was up and about 2 days after the operation. I met up with a girl from New Zealand and we went shopping and had meals together. The shopping was tremendous – not to be missed!

My family’s reaction – priceless!
I was nervous going home, but the reaction from my husband and family was amazing. My husband just kept looking at me.
I feel great and am thinking about a couple of other little things. I feel much more confident; and 6 weeks after the surgery I was wearing a bikini on holiday. Long time since that happened.

Take sports bras with you, as the choice over there is not very good. If you are thinking about it go for it. It will be such a boost to your confidence.

The Gorgeous Getaways staff made everything go so smoothly and the girls are so nice, and very supportive.

I would recommend Gorgeous Getaways to anyone, and have already. If I was doing anything else, then I would definitely use the GG service again.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]

The inside scoop
I considered cosmetic surgery about 10 years ago and have had minor fills and botox plus a lower face lift during this period. This didn’t really provide the benefit I wanted. I had saggy upper eyelids and jowls, and bags under the eyes which gave me a permanent tired look. I’d also lost some weight too which left an apron of fat and had trouble losing the cellulite which wouldn’t budge.

I’d done some research in Australia and on the net for overseas procedures. I’ve had ‘inside’ advice regarding procedures – my sister was a theatre nurse who had worked with some of Brisbane’s top cosmetic/reconstructive surgeons and ‘told me all about it’.

In Australia, my breast reduction/lift alone would have cost between $8000 and $10,000. I found Gorgeous Getaways on the internet and did some checking on the the doctors’ qualification and decided that that was the way to go. I made my decision and ‘just did it’. I went alone but was not lonely when I got there because there were other patients there at the hotel apartment who were Gorgeous Getaways clients and had gone through or were going to undertake similar procedures.

The options were clear
Undergoing cosmetic surgery was the only way that I could improve my overall physical appearance. I made a decision and went for it. I had one consult in Brisbane and the surgeon advised me what it would require to achieve the results I wanted. The doctor I had in Malaysia confirmed these recommendations. I wasn’t nervous about the impending procedures or traveling alone, but that’s me.

I did ensure that the Australian Consulate were aware of my location and registered with SmartTravel. I didn’t hide the fact where I was going and what I was doing with my family and friends. Some expressed concern and others were thrilled. But when it came down to it, it was my decision.

In good hands
The surgeon went through all the procedures with me and asked what I expected. He was very friendly and easy going – language and communication were no problem. Most of the nusing staff spoke English and those who didn’t would get someone who did. Being a nurse, I was not nervous prior to surgery but can understand how some patients would be due to the ‘unknown’ factor.

I went to hospital twice due to the multiple procedures I was undergoing. The doctors will not place any patient at risk. After discharge, I was well looked after by the Gorgeous Getaways staff who took care of my dressings and arranged follow-up appointments plus transport.

I had the liposuction and tummy tuck done first and went back to hospital 10 days later for the breast reduction/lift and facelift. I am one of those people who bruise easily and my thighs were tender (especially noticable when having to sit on a hard toilet seat). Although I was bruised after the facelift, I experienced little pain. My scalp’s nerve endings are still repairing, therefore there is still some numbness present but no bruising and my breasts are still a bit tender (it is now 5 weeks post surgery).

I spent a month in Malaysia and there is plenty to do and see. I did a lot of shopping (August is the sale month) and some sightseeing arranged by the Gorgeous Getaways staff. But you are free to do what you want.

Free at last
I am overjoyed at the ‘new me’. I did not undergo cosmetic surgery for career or other peoples’ opinions. I did it for myself. I feel more confident when going out (even to the shops) because I know I look better and I don’t have to wear loose clothing to cover up my ‘bumps’. Most of all, I love my smaller boobs! I can now wear a strapless bra and clothing to suit. It gets very hot during summer on the Fraser Coast. My friends tell me I look great and I feel it!

Don’t be afraid for any reason. If you have fears before you go, ask to speak to a past patient (including me, I don’t mind). When in Malaysia, talk about your concerns with Gorgeous Getaways staff or other Gorgeous Getaways clients in the hotel, or even the surgeon. Do your homework, make a plan and follow it through.

I would recommend Gorgeous Getaways to anyone and have done so to people I talk to who have made comments about my appearance and are now considering cosmetic surgery.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]
